John 6:37
Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me
Commentary:
Many addicts discover the emotion of feeling rejected (I believe that rejection is another way of saying I feel unloved) as a trigger for acting out with their drug of choice (sex, porn, alcohol, etc.). May we be reminded that when we feel rejected and unloved, go to Jesus. Jesus knows how it feels to be rejected and unloved, and he offers us the gifts of the Father. Saint Paul in Galatians 5 reminds us of the gifts that God wants to give us if we come to him:
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ [Jesus] have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.”
Sometimes finding the Spirit, living in the Spirit, feeling the love of God, is very hard. When we’re surrounded by our own pain whether it is brought to us or we bring it on ourselves it’s very hard to see outside that Circle of pain. Patience perseverance and most of all God’s Great Mercy is what will get us through. He will only let us fall as far as we need to, to get back to him.
